Weald Aquatics website

Based at Coolings Green & Pleasant in Knockholt, Weald Aquatics supplies pond and aquarium products to the surrounding areas of Sevenoaks, Bromley, Orpington and Keston.

Novamedia was asked to produce a website which marketed the shop and its location, showed the products on sale, and allowed the business to grow a base of local online followers. The latter was achieved through building up a mailing list for keeping in contact with members about special offers and advice (see more below), creating for Weald Aquatics a presence on Twitter (@wealdaquatics), and setting up a blog on which the staff can post regular pieces about fish keeping as well as promoting the current offers.

Tech.

The Weald Aquatics website isn't an online shop. It is, instead, an online presence for a traditional bricks and mortar shop. The online world is increasingly important for such businesses though as loyal and potential customers spend more of their time in cyberspace. Grabbing their attention and reminding them you're there not only helps boost sales, but it also keeps people interested in what you're doing.

Novamedia redesigned Weald Aquatics' website to make it responsive in 2014. This means the site resizes and responds to the device a visitor is using. The mobile version, for example, has a layout more suited to small-screens with touch-friendly buttons, whilst the desktop experience includes large, colourful photos and a more familiar 'desktop' style layout.

One of the most important parts of the site is the blog which is used to give tips and advice, to highlight some of the great fish in store and to talk about all things aquatic. Novamedia built a custom blog system which allows the staff to easily add blog posts to the site. The blog system is built into a custom admin module. This admin module also gives staff other options such as adding special offers to the site.

All of this is allied to the Weald Aquatics Club that we set up. Customers are given leaflets in store and can then sign up to join the club. A monthly newsletter is sent which contains offers, tips and advice, news, events and competitions. Each month there are also links back to the blog posts. This monthly email has a tangible effect in the shop with many customers now visiting after being prompted by something in the monthly newsletter.
