The East India Club
Founded in the middle of the 19th century, The East India Club, in the heart of London's Clubland, has a long tradition as a gentleman's home from home.
Novamedia was asked to produce the club's website initially with the added functionality of a system to allow them to update their social and sporting calendars as well as the reciprocal clubs page.
Since then, further additions have been made including a secure members' area which allows members to:
- Reserve tickets for events
- Download the club's magazine
- Order from the club shop
- Book rooms at the club
- View the club's picture gallery
As we have done with many sites, an administration module was produced allowing authorised EIC staff to log in so that they can add, modify and delete the club's events and the reciprocal clubs as well as upload the PDF files of the club's magazine and pictures for the gallery. These changes are updated on a database on the web server and reflected immediately on the site.

Picture Gallery
The club's picture gallery has been produced using a simple but very effective module supplied by Highslide. When a thumbnail is clicked, the larger image opens up elegantly and, because it is not a separate window but part of the active browser window, it is not prevented from showing by pop-up blockers.
Members can then use keyboard controls or the mouse to easily move between the large versions of the images in the gallery.
The system has been set up to allow authorised club staff to upload images and link them with an event from the club's online events database. The images are then resized automatically on the server to the two sizes required for the gallery.
