The 2,000+ instruments belonging to the Lewisham Music Service are spread around at over 90 locations in the borough and keeping track of them was a difficult and time-consuming task.
This system was put together to facilitate that task, allowing authorised users at the LMS office to add, modify and delete instruments in the database as well as to carry out searches on the database. These tasks can be carried out from any PC with an internet connection.
Tutors around the borough can also log into the system and carry out periodical audits of the instruments at chosen locations.
Every action executed by the system is logged so that the system administrators can see at any time who has carried out what task. They are able to search this log on a number of criteria including date range and all searches across the system can be downloaded as an Excel spreadsheet.
The application is backed up by a full online help system and Novamedia also trained all of the LMS staff in the use of the system.

As with the LMS system, the database is held centrally on the web server and the application has many built-in functions to enable it to access and manipulate the information held in the database.
We built the LMS system using ColdFusion which gave us all of the functionality we needed to implement all of the tasks required by the organisation.
