We
produced a series of Flash-based online software demonstrations
for Reuters showing the capabilities of some of their software.
This one demonstrates their order management system. It is made
up of a series of screen grabs on which we have animated the cursor
and the page actions to show how the software works.
The screen size was chosen so that the demo fitted onto the smallest
of monitors without the user having to scroll to see what was going
on.
The demonstration runs without user intervention although the user
can move between sections by clicking on forward and back buttons.
Keeping it small
As well as keeping the dimensions of the
demo small, it was important to keep the file size small. To
do this, when a section of the screen changed, we pasted just the
changed part of the screen grab on to the page rather than a full
screen. Whilst this was very fiddly, it meant that the final file
size was far smaller than it otherwise might have been.
