Geo
F Trumper was established in 1875 and is a well-known gentlemen’s
perfumer and barbers with two shops in London’s West End.
The ecommerce site we built for them was originally established in 2001, and enables them to sell online the full range of products from
their catalogue. The original site stood the test of time for 5 years and then underwent a major re-design at the end of 2006 making the Trumpers shopping experience even more user-friendly.
The site was completely custom-built to the client’s specification.
We set up the various database tables needed to enable an ecommerce
system to work properly and then wrote the coding for the shopping
basket solution. The programming elements were all done using ColdFusion
which gives us maximum flexibility when doing this sort of work
or and work that requires server-side code.
There is also the vitally important administration module which
allows authorised staff at Trumpers to use a browser-based system
to administer various aspects of the online shop:
Product database - adding new products or deleting or modifying
existing ones.
Order tracking - allowing orders to be tracked and fulfilled.
Downloading CSV files of the shop orders to integrate with their in-house accounts system.
Customer database - via the admin module, Trumpers can send
emails to all of their customers.
Source analysis - allows them to see where their clients found
their site.
The Trumper online shop has proven to be a great success.

Advantages of
a custom-built system
The delivery price options for Trumpers’
products are complex as they rely on area, weight and even number of items ordered. We had to build in a specific weight
banding for all products. Because their requirements were so specific,
this could only be done using a custom-built system.
Integrating with Protx
In order to run an ecommerce site, an online store has to integrate with a payment service provider to be able to take credit and debit card payments. We used Protx for the Trumpers site and carried out the integration into Protx’s systems seamlessly.
We have used both Protx and WorldPay for payment services as well as having investigated others for suitability for a particular client’s needs. It is important to ensure that the payment provider satisfies a number of criteria before going ahead as it is an important decision and the integration process can be quite lengthy.
