For rich multimedia content we can produce sites
in Flash. As an example, take a look at a site we developed for
one of our PR clients at www.listerinechallenge.com.
Flash has been used to create an online quiz which assesses your
plaque factor by asking a series of questions. We have also used
Flash to create online software demos.
Flash uses a powerful scripting language that presents web designers
with an infinite number of possibilities for web site production.
It has to be used with care. It is still cheaper and easier to
produce a web site by ‘traditional’ means (i.e. HTML)
and also easier to keep such a site updated. However, Flash comes
into its own when animated dynamic content is required. If we feel
that Flash is the technology that can do the job for you then we’ll
recommend it but we won’t use it for the sake of it or because
it happens to be fun to design in Flash.
Flash criteria
It’s also important to bear in mind that Flash requires the user
to have the Flash Player installed. Whilst most users will have
the player, there may be some in your audience that will not or
some that will have an outdated version.
Reuters
This self-contained module demonstrates Reuters'
Order Management software. It contains screen grabs of the software
with explanations of how each section works. We had to carefully
optimise each page in order to keep the finished file size down
to make it playable on the web even over slower connections.
